Winner of the prestigious Cuba Disco award for best male singer in Cuba and

Jose Gomez is best known as the one of the founders, composers and lead singers
of one of the top bands in Cuba "Cesar Pedroso y Los Que Son Son"
for the last 8 years. His popularity in Europe and all over the world with Pupy
was highlighted by people being turned away in Italy at La Tropical which holds
5000 people.
His voice is both beautiful, and strong with a timbre that is very rarely found.
He will be highlighting the 13 piece powerhouse band La Bola with his high energy
performance. NY will welcome him back by popular demand following a packed show
at the Hudson River Cafe in early October and Drom in Nov. La Bola will be adding
2 more Pupy tunes which will bring it up to 6 songs by Pupy and the rest some

Review of Dj Melao in NY by Shabi
I love all my timba dj’s from my first love Dj Gary to the amazing Reyna, Dj
Walt in San Francisco and Saoco in LA, Medina in NY. I was looking forward to
hearing Melao because I love his blog and I think it’s amazing the dedication he
has in Miami promoting the music we love. We sat through a band that was not our
style at SOB’s just to hear him between sets. I didn’t regret it for a second
because he played some of the best timba I have ever heard. Not just some
amazing rare classics but new songs I didn’t know existed, a wide range of
artists and lots of live tracks. Timba, for me is a live art and there are too
few live tracks or so I thought. This DJ has so much random, amazing live timba
that I proposed marriage to him for his CD collection… Ha ha ha, but seriously
thanks Melao for making it a really unforgettable night in NY. I really hope we
can have you back here again very soon!!!
here is his timba.com blog it's awesome if you haven't seen
it! http://www.timba.com/artists/melao/index.asp
Crash Mansion this Thursday will be a very special night. Join us all for the
beginning of Summer with the best party at BLVD right upstrairs from Crash
Mansion where it is usually held. Lots of timba will be played. Please support
this Party so that we can keep having it!

Please don't risk our party! Don't bring alcohol!

Next PARTY
THURSDAY June 12th live music Cuban Music by
NU'GUAJIRO (septeto)
Do not miss this party! They are bringing a new sound! Check this out!
Before Buena Vista this humble family of musicians gave their hearts to “El
Son”, the essence of Cuban dance music. As new groups come and go, Nu Guajiro
deepens its swing combining the funk of modern Timba with the sublime soul of
Son to cultivate a sound both pure and unique.
Here with the HAVANARUMBA Party they offer a sweet and fierce new sound,
stepping up theiR brand of Son and giving you no chance to sit down. Nu Guajiro
is devoted to the bailable, the true joy of the afro-soneo, and the moment you
ask her (or him!) to dance.
So go ahead, ask; Nu Guajiro is on your side!
"Brash, sexy and fun, Nu Guajiro weave in and out of songs... the melody
explodes.
The crowd likes what they hear. It’s community, and it works. Everyone’s
invited.
No hang-ups, no hidden agendas and no sitting around. This party is far from
over.

Danny Lozada at Crash Mansion July 12,2007 Review &
Photos!
Wow! What an amazing night! I never in my life imagined I'd
accomplish something so special to me. With only 2 rehearsals very
professionally looked after by Danny the banded sounded very tight and Danny,
even though he was sick did an incredible job and gave his signature high-energy
show. Over the next week I will post several reviews by different people in the
NYC crowd. Here is an excerpt from a timba fan there from the Netherlands
exactly as written to me in an e-mail today:
Hi Shabi,
I must say the concert was absolutely amazing! I'm a big Timba fan
from the Netherlands and have seen a few good groups there (manolito, van van,
delgado, azucar negra, etc.), but the energy, dynamic progressions and
passionate performance of Lozada and his ensemble superseded anything I've
witnessed so far.
Thanks,
Rens
Rens' youtube video compilation done with a
normal camera can be found below. The sound is not accurate but you can feel the
energy in the room. I will also be posting many videos in the coming week.

La Bolá is the newest timba band on the
NYC-music scene. Drawing from some of the top Cuban musicians in the tri-state
area, this group emerged out of deep desire to establish a real timba-band in
the NYC-area, one which reflected the real sounds of "la calle Cubana" . Their
approach is to provide an eclectic blend of Cuban music, ranging across the wide
spectrum of style and genres, yet in a refreshingly modern timba style. This
band is poised to develop into a real musical force, as with much vigor and
train-like energy (12 musicians, including strings, full percussion and trombone
section), their music shines, particularly with the quality of their
arrangements and the slick style of their execution, without ever losing sight
of the fact that timba is all about dancing.

The dynamic and

virtuosity that causes the feet to move and the hips to sway, emanating an

Under Lisandro's
musical stewardship, El Tratado approaches the music in a fresh,
well-established manner, resulting in contagious rhythms, vivacious melodies and
terrific vocals and coros that despite an eclectic hybrid, are distinctively
terrific Cuban music. Comprised from some of the top players in the business,
this band includes a powerhouse rhythm section with full-force Cuban
percussions, tres, and funky and soulful baselines that are decisively
aggressive, rhythmically complex, yet clean, refreshing and very danceable. The

New timba band in NYC
Well after Alexis Llerena
left for Miami, Alexis Y Su Sabor Habanero was no
more! But with hard work and dedication from musicians inspired to keep timba
going. They have formed "La Bolá." Here is a brief bio on
them:
La Bolá
La Bolá is the
newest timba band on the NYC-music scene. Drawing from some of the leading Cuban
musicians in the tri-state area, this group emerged out of deep desire to
establish a real timba-band in the NYC-area, one which reflected the real sounds
of "la calle Cubana" . Their approach is to provide an eclectic blend of Cuban
music, ranging across the wide spectrum of style and genres, yet in a
refreshingly modern timba style. This band is poised to develop into a real
musical force, as with much vigor and train-like energy (13 musicians, including
strings, full percussion and 3 trombones), their music shines, particularly with
the quality of their arrangements and the slick style of their execution,
without ever losing sight of the fact that timba is all about dancing.
The band's
musical direction is headed by the brilliant pianist/arranger/composer, Ariacne
Trujillo, while a distinct duo of vocalists, el Niño and Juan Got, provide a
magnificent marriage of different styles and approaches. A powerhouse rhythm
section that is remindful of the Cuban-based timba bands, and draws from some of
the top players in the business, is complemented by a full-force trombone
section and the harmonious, yet soulful, elegance of the Cuban flute and violin.

End of timba at the Copacabana...
WOW, 24 hours into NYC editor and I
get this sad news to report! March 24 will be the last night of HAVANA NIGHTS @ THE COPA. DJ Gary posted
on the Timbacubana Yahoo Group that the Copa manager wants to change "THE
HAVANA NIGHTS" for the other Latin thing!
If we all listen to the Latino Mix or La Mega you have an idea of what DJ Gary
is talking about, for those who don't well Reggeton, Merengue, Bachata, and
Salsa. Its all about what's running the airwaves now a days. If Timba was
running the airwaves would this have happened? Maybe, Maybe not. But, as of
right now unfortunately it's not! And what is I don't know how people can sit
there and listen to it with the exception of Salsa. Salsa comes from
Cuba they may not play it with the same
style but it has roots! What holds ahead for Timberos of the NYC Area? Who
knows? You have some options, nights when Carlos Boys band have gigs or Rico
Tumbao. I would like to organize something myself, but I need sponsors. And
that's the hard part, I didn't get any takers when I planned the Carlos Manuel
Show back in December. All I can say is Timberos hold your heads up high you did
something that hasn't ever been done, have timba played in the famous club of
New York. DJ Gary Thanks for all the hard
work! You have showed people that it's possible to have "Havana Nights"
Also for those who admire Cuban music from the
US:
Albita Rodriquez y Hansel y
Su Orquesta Calle Ocho will be at Club Ole on North Broad Street in Elizabeth, NJ. This Saturday from 8pm-3am ticket prices are from $40-$60. All
who are interested tickets will be sold at the door as well.
