notes: This is another melodic, clave-marking, timba-esque bass tumbao. The chord progression of Pueblo nuevo uses devices that wouldn't be explored in pop music for several decades. The harmony is echoed by El baile del buey cansao, Los Van Van's runaway hit of 1982 (original source: Los Van Van, El baile de buey cansao, Egrem Vol. VII, currently out of print - song can be found on this compilation).

This audio excerpt has many treasures. The first lead vocal passage, (or guía), is extremely melodic; Lilí's piano solo, as always, is brilliant and rhythmically challenging; the bloque is given its own unique chord progression (an innovation that no one, not even the timberos, has yet to steal!); and finally, in the diablo (or mambo), when the horns come in and the coro is cut in half, the bass tumbao changes to a one-chord vamp (xxx0 0x00 xxx0 0x00).
