Only in his mid-twenties, Michel Pérez is already firmly established as one of the most sought-after new voices of timba. With no formal training he is part of the Cuban tradition of impirical muscians. In addition to singing lead with La Charanga Forever, Pedro Pablo and Tumbao Habana, he is the corista of choice for other artists such as Tirso Duarte and Mandy Cantero. He and Tirso also did a joint album called Pan con chocolate.
In 2008 Michel joined Pupy y los que son son to replace Pepito Gómez, who left for Miami after the 2008 Canadian Tour. With a clear, bright timbre and a charismatic stage presence, Michel has been well accepted by the fans and has proved that he can take his place among the first line of Cuban music. It will be interesting to watch his continued development as an artist under the mentorship of legendary César "Pupy" Pedroso. [Michelle White 2009]
