The second of González' three contributions, this song was recently covered by Tumbao Habana on their debut release in 2001, but even master arranger Joaquín Betancourt ("La Vida Sin Esperanza", "Malecón", etc.) couldn't match the power of the original arrangement. The cuerpo has an unusual form consisting of seven short phrases, all similar, but each harmonized differently until the seventh simply explodes into the first coro without the expected breakdown, bloque or horn bridge. To move directly to the coro, it changes the clave to 3:2, "clave license style", without the slightest preparation [audio example 29] It breaks the rules with a vengeance but doing so creates a surge into the next section which wouldn't have otherwise been possible -- a perfect example of what "clave license" is all about. Taken at a furious tempo of 106 bpm, the effect is powerful and the fireworks continue from there. The second coro has an unusual three-part format, with the guía sandwiched beween two different coro phrases, leading up to a great bloque. [audio example 30]. which is repeated and extended with the horns later. [audio example 31]
