Timba del Norte - Autumn 2010

I have been remiss in my updates so I'm going to do a little series about the happenings up here in Scandinavia as 2010 heads into the homestretch. I start today with Denmark because tomorrow WOMEX, the World Music Expo, kicks off in Copenhagen - Oct. 27-30. Grupo Danson will be there presenting music from their upcoming new album. They recently returned from a mini-tour of Norway where they performed in Trondheim and Oslo. Here is a little sampler.

Elito Revé y Su Charangón will be performing this Thursday Oct. 28th at Club Mambo and I am heartbroken that I can't make it to the concert. I'm crazy about their new CD "De qué estamos hablando" and dying to hear the new songs live. Be sure you don't suffer my fate. Find a concert near you!

Orquesta Revé en vivo "Agua pa' Yemayá"

As the Autumn moves on Copenhagen will host the Latinfestival with three days/nights of dance classes shows and live music with Jorge Egües y Su Cuban Beat, Pupy y Los Que Son Son, La Empresa and Manolín "El médico de la salsa" . This is another must-participate event. Personally I have never seen Manolín live so it is very exciting and Pupy is as always on my very short list of favorite bands .

Juan Kemell & La Barriada - Havananza

Juan Kemell & La Barriada are back in Europe as of today and will kick their tour off this Friday at Cuba Café in Malmö, Sweden. On Saturday you can catch them at Musikens Hus in Gothenburg. Check all the dates in the Barriada tour section . And here's a little reminder of why you don't want to miss them.

Este noviembre Mama Rumba Roma celebra su 19 aniversario. Durante estos 19 años Mama Rumba ha sido el hogar de la música cubana en México DF. El día 12 de noviembre se va a montar una fiesta grande con Los Van Van en Mama Rumba Plaza Loreto. ¡No lo pierdas! ¡Y a nombre de Timba.com enhorabuena Mama Rumba!

Después de este concierto empieza Van Van con su gira en Canadá y los EE.UU .

Santiago de Cuba is playing host again to the Great Contest of Cuban Popular Dances and Ruedas de Casino this weekend, October 16-17 . Competitions will be held in danzón, son, casino, mambo, pilón. mozambique and rueda de casino. An award will also go to the best overall dance couple. This type of competition promotes the continuation of traditional Cuban popular dances among the youth.

The contest will be held from 7:00pm at Parque de Céspedes. After the competitions, local stars will also perform such as singers Yeline Lafargue and Leodalis Sánchez, the rumba group Oba Tuké, and the rueda groups Salseros de Calle - dir. Yanek Revilla and Rueda de Casino All Stars - dir. Jorge Luna. It may be of interest for those of you who have been following Cuban dance competitions to see that Yanek Revilla is now a judge for this competition!

Santiago de Cuba is hosting the event in tandem with UNEAC's Festival for the Felix B. Caignet Award and Cuban Culture Day. Also supporting the event are the Centro Provincial de Casas de Cultura and Direcciones Municipales y Provincial de Cultura and the Amigos del Danzòn y el Son. The contest provides a great reason for you to take a trip to Santiago this weekend to catch some top-notch, genuine Cuban dancing!
