ENGLISH:  As the future unfolds, we will be seeing more collaborative projects between Cuban artists and artists in other countries.  On Thursday, October 8, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco and Dominic Miller will unveil their new album Hecho en Cuba at the Fábrica del Arte. Dominic Miller is perhaps best known for his work with Sting, and this new album includes some of his compositions arranged in a style suitable for Manolito.  You can read more about the background of that project in Spanish here.

ESPAÑOL: Como el futuro se desarrolla, vamos a ver más proyectos de colaboración entre artistas cubanos y artistas de otros países. El jueves, 8 de octubre,  Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco y Dominic Miller darán a conocer su nuevo álbum Hecho en Cuba en la Fábrica del Arte. Dominic Miller es quizás mejor conocido por su trabajo con Sting, y este nuevo álbum incluye algunas de sus composiciones en un estilo que cabe bien el sonido de Manolito.

ENGLISH:  Septeto Santiaguero is on the short list of Cuban ensembles that deserve a quality tour of the United States and have not had one yet.  They are one of the very best traditional Son groups in Cuba, and they have 3 Cubadisco awards (including this year for No Quíero Llanto - Tributo a Los Compadres) and 3 Latin GRAMMY nominations (also including this year, for the same album). Presenters in the United States:  When are you going to rectify this oversight????  I have seen them live in Cuba without guest stars, and they are the real thing.



ESPAÑOL: Septeto Santiaguero está en la lista corta de los grupos cubanos que merecen una gira de calidad de los Estados Unidos y no la han tenido hasta ahora. Ellos son uno de los mejores grupos que tocan el Son tradicional en Cuba, y tienen 3 premios Cubadisco (incluyendo este año para No Quiero Llanto - Tributo a Los Compadres) y 3 nominaciones al Latin GRAMMY (también incluyendo este año para el mismo álbum).  A los presentadores en los Estados Unidos: ¿¿¿¿Cuando van a rectificar esta omisión???? He visto el grupo  en directo en Cuba sin estrellas invitadas, y ellos son la cosa real.

ENGLISH:  Juan de Marcos & The Afro-Cuban All Stars gave concerts in Madison and Brookfield, Wisconsin during the weekend.  Bill Tilford attended the concert in Brookfield, and you can see the photo gallery and review here.

ENGLISH:  Los Hermanos Arango will give a concert at the Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 15. This group, which offers a potent mix of folklore, Fusion and Jazz, deserves a lot more attention than it receives in the United States.   A video with some highlights of their performance at the Berklee College of Music follows.  You can read about the history of the group and view more videos  at their website here.

ENGLISH: As part of his residency at the University of Wisconsin, Juan de Marcos is performing with The Afro-Cuban All Stars on Friday, October 2 at the Overture Hall in Madison, Wisconsin and on Saturday, October 3 at the Wilson Center in Brookfield, Wisconsin.   Both shows start at 8PM.   This ensemble is a spectacular interpreter of styles from the Buena Vista type to more modern Cuban popular dance music.   This is one of the don't-miss concerts in the Midwest this year. 

ESPAÑOL: Como parte de su residencia en la Universidad de Wisconsin, Juan de Marcos está realizando con The Afro-Cuban All Stars el viernes 2 de octubre en el Overture Hall en Madison, Wisconsin y el sábado 3 de octubre en el Wilson Center en Brookfield, Wisconsin . Ambos espectáculos comienzan a las 8PM.  Este ensemble es un espectacular intérprete de estilos,  del tipo de Buena Vista al estilo más moderno de la música popular bailable cubana. Es uno de los "No se lo pierdan"  eventos en el Medio Oeste de este año.

ENGLISH:  The Afro Cuban Jazz Edition on WSLR continues to feature new music from Cuba as part of each program. The latest show, which is archived for another week, includes  the music of Brenda Navarrete, who in addition to her work with Interactivo has her own fascinating Jazz and folkloric music projects (she is, among many other things,  an extremenly accomplished percussionist including batá).   You can also hear a conversation (in Spanish) that she recorded with Bill Tilford in Habana in May 2015 here.

In September and October, Juan de Marcos González , whose resume includes Sierra Maestra , Buena Vista Social Club , Ruben González , Ibrahim Ferrer, and the Afro Cuban All Stars , will be in residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.  There will be a series of lectures, workshops and concerts, and there will be some interesting special guests such as Telmary Diaz during the series.  For the complete schedule aof concerts and workshops, the residency page is here.
