The Lucas annual video awards came and went with a few timba winners, Van Van with Chapeando, Maikel Blanco with Recoge y vete. As has become a trend now, X Alfonso swept the awards with a number for the great video (and song) Santa, and a few for Civilización. On the subject of X Alfonso and music awards, don’t be surprised if he walks away with another album of the year award at the upcoming CubaDisco2006, this young singer/songwriter composer still playing in the seminal Sintesis, has hit full stride with his band…

On a down note, Maikel Blanco has been quite public about looking for a new singer(s?). This is bad news, as the highlight of the last show I saw with him was three talented, young singers.
