SpanishEnglishDactilar - (Cinquillo/Colibrí) 2015
CD Review: Dactilar by Hector Quintana (Cinquillo/Colibrí 2014)
Review by Bill Tilford, all rights reserved
This is the debut album by Cuban Jazz guitarist Hector Quintana, a protege of Joaquín Betancourt who has also toured with Michel Herrera. This is a very sophisticated session with some excellent North American style Jazz as well as Fusion and some Cuban-style Jazz. Blues de los divertidos is, as its title implies, a rousing blues song. Mr. Quintana has his own distinct style, but I think I can safely say that fans of North American guitarists like Al DiMeola would love this recording. Jorge Aragon and Alejandro Falcon contribute some sublime work on piano, and Yissy García demonstrates that her range of Jazz styles on drums is even wider than many of her fans may realize.
Dactilar was nominated for a Cubadisco 2015 in the Jazz category. Very highly recommended.
