While Miami is working itself into a veritable frenzy in anticipation of the upcoming Havana D'Primera plus El Pikete on Friday the 24th (see video below), San Francisco...yet again...proves itself as the top market for hardcore Cuban Timba with an unbelievable trifecta on SATURDAY JUNE 1rst: two (2) Havana D' Primera shows at Yoshi's SF at 8 and 10pm, to be followed by -- for the very first time in the USA and their first stop of their USA tour -- Bárbaro Fines y su Mayimbe from Lima Perú, just a few minutes away at Café Cócomo for an 11:45 show. 

Take your Havana D'Primera ticket stub and get $5 off at the door for the Mayimbe 11:45pm show !! We'll be seeing you there. All west coast timberos and timberas will be dancing FULL FORCE. Mayimbe has a second show at Cócomo on Sunday as well.

VAYA CALENTANDO LOS MOTORES para Havana D' Primera en Nueva York Junio 5 y 6. This CD Release Party from Ex-NG La Banda singer Gerardo Contino features special guests Xiomara Laugart (vocalist) and percussionist Luisito Quintero. In Cuba, Gerardo also sang with Charanga Forever and Son Yoruba. The gig will take place at the World Music Institute on 509 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. Tix are only $25.

Here's a short list of the musicians joining Gerardo: Axel Tosca Laugart (piano) - John Benítez (bass) - Roberto Quintero (Congas) - Luisito Quintero (Drums & Timbal). Pianists Oriente López and Manuel Varela will also make an appearance.

Miami is in for a real TIMBA treat..... El Pikete has been re-activated with all new music from composer / arranger, co-leader and electronic wind instrument (e.w.i.) player Jeans Valdés, AND THEY ARE OPENING FOR HAVANA D' PRIMERA at La Covacha on Friday May 24th !!!

Many fans will immediately recognize some of the new members as they are heavyweights of the genre in their own right. Reinier is an all-star veteran from Paulito F.G. and the Cuban Timba All-Stars, Ivette was the piano player for the Canadian timba band D'talle, Michel is from Havana Power Band, El Kid is ex-Tiempo Libre....not to mention El Pikete itself is Manolín El Médico's band when not backing Manolín. Another real treat is their new female lead Ingrid Leiva (any relation to Pío Leiva?), as Hany is expecting her first child. 

** UPDATE - Ingrid Leyva Fuentes used to be the lead singer for Azucar Negra (Limonta's project) and you can see her in the video I just posted under the band list... Enjoy! El Pikete's lineup is shaping up to be a a new all-star timba group.
