ACAS played two sold out shows at Freight & Salvage in Berkeley with several new members and several new pieces, including a tremendous timba original (Se fue y me dijo) and a show-stopping medley of classic Puerto Rican plenas. Alto songo featured a fascinating set of improvised décimas in Controversia Cubana style--featuring vocalist Emilio Suárez and De Marcos, who has become a formidable lead vocalist in his own right, incorporating subtle blues and hiphop inflections at various points. Bay Area master John Santos introduced the show and sat in for a fiery conga solo.

Dancing Software!
I haven't fully explored this new program but it looks amazing: educational software for rueda dancers, covering gears, clave changes, et al. Here's the website, and there's a screenshot below. More info will be posted soon. [Kevin Moore]
Issac at Freight & Salvage
Returns Tues. - Kuumbwa in Santa Cruz Wed.
Issac packed Freight & Salvage Monday and will return Tuesday night. It was a high energy show with two surprises: Issacito Delgado on piano and Denis "Papacho" Savón, Issac's longtime conguero, on timbales. The show moves on to Santa Cruz's Kuumbwa Jazz Center Wednesday night. [Tom Ehrlich]

There will be free dance lessons with the incomparable Ryan and Sidney (Rueda con Ritmo) at Freight & Salvage beginning at 7:00.
