Timbeando con Gilito

Gilito SELAM is starting off the holiday season with a major salsa party starring Gilito backed by a powerful band featuring Pepe Espinoza, Oldrich González, Evelio Galán, Ezequiel Nuñez, and Carlos Pérez among others. SELAM has also brought in Stockholm's great timba DJs, Soto-Mayor and N'Rike. The concert will take place at Kulturhuset on December 4th, yes on Changó's Day, so be sure to wear something red. Gilito has been busy all year performing with his own group and with Juan De Marcos' Afro-Cuban All Stars, and finally he is making a stop here in Stockholm. What better way to heat up a cold, dark Scandinavian night?

Prepárense bailadores y timberos! This Friday, November 12 - Sunday, November 14 Copenhagen will once again host the Latin Festival at Amager Bio. By day you can take part in dance workshops in Reggaeton, Salsa, Rueda, Rumba and Afro-Cuban Dance/Orishas. By night enjoy dance shows/competitions followed by first class music from:
Friday November 12: Egues y Su Cuban Beat and Pupy Los Que Son Son
Saturday November 13: La Empresa and Manolín "el Medico de la Salsa"

This festival is well worth making a timba trip. Pupy is simply not to be missed and this may well be the first time that Manolín has performed in Scandinavia, at least I think it's the first time since I got into timba back in 2003. So hitchhike if you have to but get yourself to Copnehagen this weekend! You can book your tickets in advance so you don't get left out in the cold. Just look at some of what you have to look forward to!

Miami's hot Timbalive kick off their European Tour "From Miami to La Habana" with a concert in Rennes, France at the Aquí Cuba festival. the band will tour France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Spain during a whirlwind 2-week tour. I have been remiss in my updates so I'm going to do a little series about the happenings up here in Scandinavia as 2010 heads into the homestretch. I start today with Denmark because tomorrow WOMEX, the World Music Expo, kicks off in Copenhagen - Oct. 27-30. Grupo Danson will be there presenting music from their upcoming new album. They recently returned from a mini-tour of Norway where they performed in Trondheim and Oslo. Here is a little sampler.

Elito Revé y Su Charangón will be performing this Thursday Oct. 28th at Club Mambo and I am heartbroken that I can't make it to the concert. I'm crazy about their new CD "De qué estamos hablando" and dying to hear the new songs live. Be sure you don't suffer my fate. Find a concert near you!

Orquesta Revé en vivo "Agua pa' Yemayá"

As the Autumn moves on Copenhagen will host the Latinfestival with three days/nights of dance classes shows and live music with Jorge Egües y Su Cuban Beat, Pupy y Los Que Son Son, La Empresa and Manolín "El médico de la salsa" . This is another must-participate event. Personally I have never seen Manolín live so it is very exciting and Pupy is as always on my very short list of favorite bands .
