Los Van Van: US Tour Begins Friday

ENGLISH: The Los Van Van US Tour begins Friday in Washington DC with stops in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Denver, San Juan and Miami. I saw them in Havana in 2014, and they are as excellent as ever. See our TOURS page for links.

ENGLISH: On Saturday, August 8, Los Van Van and Pablo Menéndez and Mezcla will appear together in a homage to Juan Formell during a prerecorded segment of 23 y M on Cubavision. The program starts at 7pm Eastern US time. There are a few ways to stream Cubavision Internacional, one of which is here. Worth watching these two bands playing together.

ENGLISH: Pablo Menéndez & Mezcla, who released the new album Pure Mezcla in February, have been attracting a lot of attention lately. Also on Saturday from 9am-10am Eastern US time, you can listen to a prerecorded interview of Pablo, his sister/tour manager Nina Menéndez and Bill Tilford (Pure Mezcla's Producer) along with a few songs in Janet Howard's wonderful program Up Front on WSHA, 88.9 FM, Shaw University public radio. This album was nominated for a Cubadisco award in 2015 in the Cuban Jazz category.

ALSO: You can hear Bill's interview in English of Jazz pianist Alejandro Falcón, who won two Cubadisco awards this year, in the radio archive of The Afro Cuban Jazz Edition with Frankie Pineiro on WSLR until Tuesday, July 28, when the show will run his special segment on the music of Ruy López-Nussa & La Academia.
