"El Son" New Single from Donaldo Flores

Donaldo Flores

France based, Cuban singer Donaldo Flores has released a new single -simply called "El Son" (listen to it here on RADIO TIMBA)- in anticipation of the release of his third album. Born in Matanzas, Donaldo's musical career started taking off when he joined la Orquesta Yaguarimu. Moving to Havana he worked with Orland "Maraca"Valle and then replaced Aramis Galindo in Adalberto Álvarez' group.  In 2003 he recorded his first album "El Solitario" and moved to Bordeaux. He is also known as the host of a radio progrma called "Llegó La Música Cubana" on FM 90.1 French radio. His European performances include participation with la Orqeusta Gali and the London based group "Ska Cubano".

Danny Lozada 8 and 10 pm shows at Yoshi's Oakland November 25, are a dream come true for timba fans hungry for the fast, intricate music he composes and performs. This is his first Bay Area appearance since 2007. Danny arrives Sunday night, 11/22, for a guest appearance at Jelly’s with Fito Reinoso.

Danny Lozada Yoshi's Oaklanday, 11/25, he’ll light up Yoshi’s Oakland with two shows. Danny’s performance and band leading abilities are amazing and seeing him at this world-famous venue – with an open dance floor and the best sound system anywhere – will be extraordinary.

Septeto Nacional
His 11-piece band of great timba musicians will begin full force at 8 pm, and by the 10 pm show there may be some surprises. 

Hearings this week in Washington, D.C. on lifting the embargo, along with sold out Septeto Nacional shows on the East Coast – have added to the buzz across the U.S. that Cuban music is back full force. Support these internationally recognized musicians and our Bay Area musicians as well.

Are The Rumors True?

Ah hello out there? Reportedly Los Van Van has confirmed that they are playing in the next Playboy Jazz Festival! And these 2 flyers for upcoming Diakara and Pupy y los que Son Son shows at S.O.B.s (in New York City) have surfaced. What is going on? As far as we know Pupy is in Italy during that time. Let's hope that there is a coming wave of TIMBA concerts.

Decades before the Buena Vista Social Club, the septet performed the compositions of its namesake, transforming them into international standards of the son tradition. Septeto Nacional, was formed in 1927 by the first superstar of Cuban son, Ignacio Piñeiro. Born and raised in the working class Havana neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo, Piñeiro epitomized the urban sonero. He started out as a brilliant rumbero, and he was a well-known akpón or lead vocalist of the santería chant tradition......
