Cuba based rap duo, Zona Franka, blends traditional rhythms with the grit and swagger of hip-hop and rap vocal phrasings. Their clever shout choruses create instant tropical dance classics using their unique self-titled "changui con flow" style.

Tom's Proverb Trio Photos from SJ Jazz

Tom's second SJ Jazz Summer Fest gallery is up - this one deals exclusively with Dafnis Prieto's  amazing Proverb Trio. They improvise everything - chords, form, lyrics, grooves - but it's not the abstract madness you expect from "free jazz" - the musical materials are very accessible to the ear so what you hear sounds composed even though it's improvised - truly amazing.
