Cuba based rap duo, Zona Franka, blends traditional rhythms with the grit and swagger of hip-hop and rap vocal phrasings. Their clever shout choruses create instant tropical dance classics using their unique self-titled "changui con flow" style.

Buen Aniversario Giraldo Piloto & Klímax!

The band celebrates 16 years today!

Timberos around the world, take some time today to celebrate a tu manera with Giraldo Piloto and Klímax who are celebrating their 16th anniversary! Having just returned from a European tour there hasn't been time to plan the official celebration event; it will come soon and we will keep you updated. But for now the band is celebrating this morning with friends at Casa De la Música Miramar. Rumor has it there will be plenty of cake, ensalada y ron! I was congratulating Piloto this morning and he asked me to send a "saludo" to all the readers of Timba.com and says "Los queremos". Well Piloto, let me speak on behalf of all timberos and say we love you and your band too! Thank you for all the years of enjoyment you have brought us. We look forward to many more!

Canadians will be happy to hear that Klímax will be performing there soon, June 3-5. All details will be posted as soon as we are fully updated.

For now let me leave you with a video from the album "Solo tú y yo"
the hit "La Permuta" sung by Leo Garrido.

Los Muñequitos Begin 16-City Tour with a Bang

2nd SF Show Added Tonight

by Kevin Moore

Monday's sold out show (over 1,000 people) was greeted with - and closed by -- the most thunderous, sincere and heartfelt ovation that I can recall hearing ... ever.

The music, the dancing and the crowd were all amazing. Tonight was the formal show with one set of Afro-Cuban music and one of rumba. Tonight, Tuesday, will be a much more informal setting, at the Mission Language and Vocation Center with Los MdM's crack dancing troupe squaring off against the "the locals", who of course, in this town, include plenty of transplanted Cuban masters like Sandy Pérez, José Francisco Barroso and Rosita Villamil who played with major folkloric groups in Havana and Matanzas. Next stop is Savannah, Georgia, then Atlanta, then Florida and the buzz is that the three New York shows are already almost sold out. CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL TOUR.
