Chucho Valdés and Gonzalo Rubalcalba will perform as a duo at Smphony Center in Chicago on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 8:00pm. Although each has a long and storied musical career, this tour is said to be their first time performing as a duo. More information and tickets are available at the Symphony Center website.

Omar Sosa will be on tour in the United States in several cities in March including a key stop at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago on March 15. This tour is in support of his new release with Seckou Keita, Transparent Water, scheduled for release this month. We'll say more about that recording closer to the date. ENGLISH: Bill Tilford attended the 20th Anniversary of the Concurso de jóvenes jazzistas (JoJazz 2017) in Havana, Cuba in November at the invitation of the National Center of Popular Music (CNMP). More than merely a competition for Cuba's finest young Jazz talent, it also provides a glimpse of things to come in Jazz in Cuba. ENGLISH: The 33rd Festival International Jazz Plaza will be taking place in Havana from the 17th to the 21st of January using several locations (as always) including Teatro Mella, Jardines del Mella, CIDMUC, Casa de la Cultura de Plaza, and the clubs and hotels always have late night presentations as well. There is a nice website dedicated to the festival this year:
