Cuba based rap duo, Zona Franka, blends traditional rhythms with the grit and swagger of hip-hop and rap vocal phrasings. Their clever shout choruses create instant tropical dance classics using their unique self-titled "changui con flow" style.

Tom Ehrlich - 2016 Dayme Arocena

DAYMÉ AROCENA

THE NEW PARISH, OAKLAND, CA

APRIL 3, 2016

Daymé Arocena and her group, all living in Cuba, consists of Daymé on vocals and small percussion, Jorge Luis Lazarga on piano and Rafael Aldama on bass.  This young trio, all in their 20's, performed at The New Parish in Oakland California on April 3, 2016, played music which was an organic mixture of Afro-Cuban folkloric music, soul, salsa and jazz.   Daymé composed many of the songs they performed and she is extremely dynamic with a great voice, vivacious, warm personality and outstanding composing skills.  She clearly should have a great future.  Besides having her own group, she is part of an all woman band called Maqueque, lead by Canadian jazz artist Jane Bunnett with the rest of the members being Cuban women.

As usual, here are photos from this great concert.
